— UPDATED June 10, 2021 —

Please find below a message from the camp director and board of directors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and outlining the direction of programs at Camp Lael for the immediate future.

June 10, 2021

From the beginning of the pandemic, our desire has been to continue to fulfill our mission of providing the camp for those in need of renewal and growth. We feel that over the past 15 months we have been able to continue to provide camp experiences, but in a different way.   The Lael Board is focused on taking needed precautions and following the science in determining our path back to “normal”. We were planning for a full summer but have had to make some changes to best serve our campers and staff.

Camp Capability and Introductory Camp have been cancelled for the 2021 season. This decision was not an easy one to make.  Due to staffing and financial issues it was necessary.  The good news is that these campers will still be able to attend camp next season.

We have moved the 5th and 6th Grade Camp and the Junior High Camp to the week                                     of July 18-23.  This move will help us with staffing and volunteer recruitment.  The camps will be run separate from each other except for mealtimes.  This week and the Senior High week will be the only weeks we offer weeklong camp.

Kids Camp Weekend, Senior High Camp and the Family Camp Weekends will remain as previously listed. Please visit www.camplael.com. for the complete list of camp dates and information.  We are still searching for resident paid staff members as well as volunteers willing to spend a week as a cabin leader. Contact Jim at Camp Lael if you are interested in serving this summer.

The State of Michigan has updated their Covid guidelines for summer camps.  It is important to remember that while many adults have been vaccinated, many children and youth have yet to be.  This summer we plan to be outdoors as much as possible.  Social distancing is still required.  Masks will be required for indoor activities if distancing is not possible.  Common area will be cleaned more often, and the campers will have a health checkup daily.  More information about our camp policies and response to the pandemic will be available soon.

Please remember to stay safe, keep your distance, wear a mask when necessary and pray for those who are essential workers, those in financial need and those who have lost loved ones.

This is the updated summer schedule:

June 25-27Kids Camp
July 18-235th and 6th Grade Camp
Junior High Camp
July 25-30Senior High Camp
July 30 – August 1Family Camp
August 6-8Family Camp
